Unemployment in Romania. A Retrospective Study

Abstract. Unemployment started to be registered in Romania in 1991, and in 1994 was conducted the first investigation to evaluate unemployment by ILO standards. Registered unemployment in Romania rose continuously till 1999, and then it decreased, as a result of the transformation processes occurred in the economy. The paper also try to investigate the structural characteristics of unemployment, by age, sex, occupation, instruction level, duration, regional distribution, focusing on changes occurred in the last 15 years and underlining the categories the most affected by unemployment.
