Abstract. This paper aims to assess the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Romania in the context of the EU-27 membership. To achieve this, we used specific indicators for all 17 SDGs and we performed a comparative and time-series analysis to identify the current social, economic and environmental challenges that Romania is facing. Our results show that socio-economic challenges are more pressing than environmental ones, compared to other developed EU MS where the environmental challenges needs an increased focus within the policy specific processes.
Keywords: Sustainable Development Goals, poverty, inequality, institutions, education.
